Load-through trunk hatch

Has anyone had any experience retrofitting a Z4 with a load-through hatch between the trunk and interior compartment?

I see on BMWOEM.com there are at least two panels that need to be traded out to make it work? Anything else?

i was considering it but then thought about it and realized that once or twice that i was going to use it is not worth it.
plus the space you gain is not large enough to justify it, as well as an uncomfortable ride it will create

I've never used it myself, even though I have it. I'm an avid skier, but most of my skis are too long, and also, when I go to the mountains, I take my truck, not my Z....

I really wish mine came with the storage option instead of the ski-through.

Looking for a way to carry 1 set of golf clubs with the top down. Aggravating that it's not possible, but I knew that going in.

My 2011 with through-loading came with the pieces to convert it to the storage option in a plastic bag in the trunk, your 2012 did not?

Nope, it's a optional or part of the cold weather package (I thought a ski pass through would have made more sense as a cold weather package though?). I believe I can buy just the shelves the bracket holding it separately though, I still have to inquire from the dealership.

Oh, I see, for 2012 you get the through-loading standard?

I got it as part of the cold weather package. But you should be able to just buy the parts, it was an easy snap-in.

I retrofitted my through the trunk to the compartments. I find I don't use them all that much because they are hard to get to while sitting and driving. The better retro for me was the European tray in the center console.

I just took delivery of my car 3 weeks ago and I have the ski pass thru system. I did not order the cold weather option so maybe because they think everybody in Colorado skis, I got the ski package. I would rather have the storage shelves. I will be at the dealer this morning so will ask about the shelves. What ever you store on those shelves will probably rattle. Don't want that.

I live in California where it's sunny about 90% of the time and I got the ski-pass through. I really do think it makes more sense to have a ski-pass through as an option to go with the cold weather package, I mean that just makes sense to me. The shelves should have been standard.

My 2011 came with both units. I removed ski bag and installed shelves, I liked the novelty of having an option but that made the interior louder without the ski bag acting as sound insulation.....roof up of course. I switched back to ski bag. I could be remembering the sound level issue wrong, as I once removed both options for a road trip and just had open access behind the interior door to access small cooler/snacks/rum.

Just arrived home from dealer who told me they no longer supply the shelves in addition to the ski package. I guess the noise level would be a problem for me and I don't know what I would store on the shelves that would not rattle. I agree, that the ski package should come with the cold weather package which I did not order.

I got my 2012 in January and I got both the ski bags and the shelves. Maybe you get the shelves by default and the ski bag doesn't come unless you specifically get the ski/cold weather package?

Does anyone know if the hole there for Z4's that didn't come with the ski-passthrough or the shelves? It's hard to tell on RealOEM and I almost feel like it might be there on all e89's . . . but that said I know on other models e.g. on my e39 m5 if you don't have the [factory] passthrough then if you want to retrofit one it requires cutting.

This is my second E89. Both came with the ski and storage units. I use the storage for storing sunglasses and pocket camera. Never used the ski bag. The shelves have a slight rubber lining so it doesn't rattle.

I retro fitted from a car breakers.
Easy enough to fit if you have half a day spare. Came with the shelves, but they can be unclipped to make a pass through.
Will be useful for when a buy a broom handle and it's raining.
