DIY Stub Antenna

A quick snip of the stock antenna and voila BMW Stub. Ten minutes $0. If you don't care about AM/FM. I don't - prefer to listen to Sat, IPOD or exhaust.

1. Unscrew antenna from vehicle, I guess you could do this in place if your careful.
2. Slip off the rubber snubber on the end of the antenna using a pair of diagonal cutter or other suitable tool. It is not glued on.
3. Snip the antenna 0.5 -0.63 from the base, using a good pair of diagonal cutters or other cutting device. Cut it just below where the diameter increase due to the wire wrap.
4. Gentley squeeze the remaing end to reround.
5. Lightly lubricate the ID of the rubber snubber with saliva and slip it onto the stubby end.
6. Reinstall on vehicle.

I still prefer the citroen/peugeot one that has been discussed and shown previously. It is a lot shorter and cleaner.

is your reception affected in any way?

Good effort nonetheless !!

the aerial antenna is for AM and it's the cars cellphone extension if you connect thru the armrest base. so you'll lose AM, and the "extension" of cellphone reception.

Personally I've never missed it.

FYI

Well despite the surgery on the stock "antenna", I still have both AM & FM, good reception at least here in San Diego - damn the bad luck. Can't speak to any "built in cellphone reception" issue - I personally don't need to be that connected.

^^ FM is not in the rod antenna, it's in the rear bumper.

No problem whatsoever same as the standard one, but I think it depends on the area you live in.

The good news is, they are cheap, and interchangeable.
IF you get one and dont like what it does to your mobile phone reception (or heaven forbid you actually listen to AM radio), you can always swap back.

Unless you do the Brit Milah process described above by HerrK.

I didn't know it had an imact on the cellphone reception but I just use Bluetooth not the cradle so no issues.

I got the Pugeot antenna, AND, I still have the OEM antenna in the trunk if I need it (like I'm going to start listening to AM anytime soon )

The mangowalk ones have a slightly different angle on the base and don't fit perfectly if I remember correctly. If they fit an E46 (and they do) then they aren't correct for the E89. close but not "right".

From the pics I've seen, it looks to be a perfect fit, but I will find out for sure on Saturday - I take delivery of my Zed4 (I already have the Mangowalk)
