I uploaded some more photos into my road trip albums (5 Arizona / Nevada). You are welcome to have a peek.

Today Saturday July 31, 2010 I completed the first week of my planned extended road trip. This afternoon after picking up a family member from the Airport here in Vegas we shall continue further north to the Napa Wine Valley then heading west to the coast and down the renown coastal highway 1 to LA. Expecting to arrive in LA by late mid next week. More photos will be added later.

http://web.me.com/solgain/Road_Trip_...er_Canada.html

My retirement toy continues to perform outstanding without any flaws, gas mileage for a little sports performance car having 306 HP is outstanding averaging 9.1 L/ 100 KM.

PS. I’ve taken more photos with my Camcorder, however, left some vital accessories at home so downloading will have to wait till my return back home.

No worries, it’s not going to happen I meantain speedlimit plus 10% here and then when the cops are on coffee break I take her to 160 KM/HR

Tranquility

Thank you, yes I too like the combination. I guess I fell in love with it last year in May when I visited the München BMW Museum. They had the 2009 in Orion Silver in the Museum except the interior was not black. I like the black. You may have seen the photo the 2009 was parked besides a BMW 1934 335/1 here is the link;

http://web.me.com/solgain/Dieters_Tr...ünchen.html#15

HerrK

Glad to see you enjoyed the photographs. Hope all goes well with your ED and your trip. So far I’ve only seen three Z3 on the road and one Z4 in the Belango Casino here in Vegas. I told the fellow playing like wild the slots to win it, the only way to get one is to save your hard earned dollars and purchase one. He just smiled and put another $20- into the slot machine.

Mcbeee

Sorry my friend by September I hope to be back home in Ontario Love the Alpine White as well, my last Z4 2008 was white, I traded up for the roof and more HP.

Wraith

Great suggestion Thanks! I might just follow your advise. Then again I may head further north and visit some of my friends in Vancouver and Edmonton

Suvidh

Yes I did have the oil changed, even though my trusted BMW Service Manager said I don’t have too until my return.

Well time to pack my seven things into the trunk and head for the airport to pick someone up then up north we shall drive thru the desert "Look out California here we come" ~smile~

Saturday evening now, what an amazing drive we had this afternoon after spending a bit more time in Vegas we decided to take a little detour thru the Mojave Desert. We took the I - 95 to the junction of I - 373 this became I - 136 for a spell then once we crossed into California it became I - 190. We took that up to I - 395 and headed north.

I can only tell you the road is one of the best surface roads I’ve been on in my life. It must be the climate or the road must have been resurfaced a short while ago. Certainly a road for a Z4 to let it’s hair down. What a wonderful fun drive it was. At one point we were at 6 feet above sea level with the exterior temperature at 49 C and 15 minutes later after the elevation changed to some 4,000 feet the temperature dropped to 34 C.

Anyway we checked into a nice B&B and tomorrow our journey continues to the Napa Wine Valley. Meanwhile I posted some pictures of the Mojave Desert as seen this afternoon (you find the photos in the California album ~ link is under the first post).

Bottom line, should you ever be here in this area do not miss this amazing drive that is why I gave you the highway numbers. I highly recommend it, I know a bit of a detour since our target tomorrow is the Napa Valley, still what is a few miles in order not to miss something so fabulous after all driving the Z4 is what it is all about

Cheers,

Rolf-Dieter

Added some more photos last night in my California Album, weather is great I'll be in LA later this afternoon. We took a lot of video along Highway 1 when I get back home I'll figure out how to post it on YouTube being an old fart I need some reading on the subject

Car is performing superb not a noise or any kind of problems after some 5K KM so far on this trip. My average fuel consumption (per on board computer read out) with average 120 KM / hour is 9.0 Liter / 100 KM ... Started out in London, ON with 10.5 L/100 KM.

Cheers till later

I added a few photos to the California Album.

To bad the coast is fogy right now, however, the drive is still fantastic.

I am enjoying it very much and no worries one day you will

Right now I am in Newport Origin, another 140 miles north on US 101 and I shall turn east inland direction Chicago (with plenty of stops along the way) then back home along the 401

Cheers, take care!

Rolf-Dieter

PS spotted only one Z4 along the way and that one was in Vegas surounded by sot machines Saw at last 10 Z3 all the Z4 drivers must be working hard

How do you figure it's off topic - it's Rolf's thread.

Here's a quote from the forum rules:

Forum Rules/Guidelines/Tips and Tricks! PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Multimedia Tips

Quote:
Just a quick reminder to everyone, when you want to post images to the forum, I highly suggest you use the attachment feature to directly post them on the forum rather then link the from a free image hosting site.

Why? Well, I know I always get frustrated when I open an old thread only to see red Xs all over the post; This happens because the thread was old and the images were removed from the original hosting site.

I probably shouldn't encourage using the forum attachments as it sucks up major bandwidth and hardd rive space, but I don't care I know its more useful to everybody out there when the images are actually viewable.

So by all means, attach away, when our hard drive fills up, we'll just buy more hard drive space!

Can I ask you who made you administrator of this forum????

Lots of other people including people on the German forum seam to appreciate my tread.

I posted this tread primarily to share with other Z4 drivers my experiences as I take this incredible trip across North America.

If you are NOT interested then just don't open the tread or any further thread that I may post here.

Besides if you don't like to see Z drivers taking an extensive trip then perhaps rather then your vise teenager type comment you should address your comment to the actual administrator of this site and ask him if a slot can be added where Z drivers can post experiences when they take a longer drive then from home with there car.

For your information in the past 2 weeks I put just a bit more then 10,000 KM on my 2009 Z4 that is 6,200 miles. I am now faced with RFT problems and a crack in one of my wheels, then you don't seam to be interested in such details.

As you can see your post did not amuse me at all.

You take care now with whatever you do.

I am stuck in Idaho due to RFT Failure & Wheel Crack (posted a tread on that subject).

Since I have some time on my hands I added some more pictures to my trip album site. What els is a guy to do besides drinking beer and eating pizza while waiting for the replacement wheel to arrive. Anyway if you like to see some more photos (added to albums 6 to 12, here they are;

Yes thanks, I saw I just found his post a bit tasteless, in fact it left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't think he gets the meaning of my thread.

I saw some of KrisNL posts, he seams to be interested in other things I shall not comment any further on that issue.

How is the body work holding up in the long ride so far? I am afraid to drive mine in longer distances now because at least on mine, it is prone to chips, even the windshield.

Have you toured Hell's Canyon on the Snake River (western border of Idaho)? I believe its one of the deepest one in NA.

If you have a rental while waiting, it may be worth the time to do so.
