Air conditioning not working?

My 2013 Z4 experiences sporadic episodes where the AC doesn't turn on and the control panel doesn't light up. I took it to the dealer (still under warranty) but because it only happens once every 2-3 months, they couldn't localize or re-create the problem. Did anyone experience this issue?

Don't worry. We all experience this feature. It's part of the Z4 experience.

Someone once suggested stating the car by pressing the start button, then stepping on the clutch as a way to prevent this problem. I've been doing this since that last time this happened (maybe 5 months ago) and it hasn't returned. So who knows, but so far so good.

Not ever experienced this problem. I had a 2011 Z4 35i and now a 2016 Z4 35is. Didn't know this was a widely experienced issue.

the fix for this problem is to remove the gas cap and place it on a new vehicle. BMW never cared enough to fix the issue as it is intermittent and resets itself. so by the time a tech gets to it the problem goes away

Easily reproducible in my case -

unlock the car, Open the driver door and leave the door open for 5 mins without touching the ignition switch. After 5 mins if you start the car the panel will be dead....
