Z435is front rotor I thought is 348x30mm with a 1 piston sliding caliper and the M performance brakes being discussed here are 370x30mm with a 4 piston fixed caliper

My rough understanding is the M performance version would have a heat dissipation benefit in two ways ..first from the larger rotor, second from the caliper design which has larger brake pad swept area, less flex

Total SWAG on my part because I have not tracked either the 35is brakes or M performance brakes, so maybe in real life there is no difference, but on paper, seems like the M performance setup has some cooling related advantages (not to mention the bling bling looks advantage)

Thanks for the clarity, greatly appreciated. Now if they could get a good rear setup too.

The performance brakes you're talking about are the new 4 pistons for the F3x chassis. The OP posted a link to the 6 piston brakes for the E9x chassis.

The E9x performance brakes have a 338x26mm rotor with 6 piston fixed calipers.

Nice catch thanks.

So.. those E9X performance brakes are pretty much 135 brakes?

By the way, the F30 M performance brakes apparently do fit the E89 also...

I obviously confused the threads

Only 3 choices to upgrade the rears:

1. E9x performance brakes, but loose the parking brake (expensive/risky not having parking brake for manual trans)

2. aftermarket slotted/drilled rotors and upgraded pads (inexpensive/reasonable upgrade)

3. replace with rear rotors and calipers from the Z4 35is (expensive/probably not work the cost).

35i rears are 300x20 while the 35is rears are 324x20

To upgrade to 35is rears you would have to replace rotors, calipers and carriers. Calipers are about $350 each, carriers about $200 each.

Yup the E9X performance brakes are identical to the 135i brakes. One downside to the new performance brakes from the F30 are that they will only fit with 19" wheels, the E9X brakes will fit 18" wheels.

the F30 M sport brakes (same caliper, same size rotor, but rotor not slotted) fits over 18" wheels for F30.

Any thoughts?

if you look at the original link in the german forum you'll see how tight they are on 19" wheels, I don't see any way they will fit inside an 18 - though it may depend on the specific wheel.

I would even add the DCT transmissions because to my knowledge, which admittedly is very limited in this area, but the mechanism how DCT "parks" the car is unconfirmed, and whether the rear parking brakes aid in the parking of the vehicle is unconfirmed as well.

Just found these which will fit the E9x 6-piston performance rotors.

http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...ors/ES2550968/

I think I may order a set for the Z4

I read the description of those rotors and it seems like the holes are drilled in, as opposed to cast in.

cost of the E9X 6 piston + those rotors.. might be better to get the F30 setup ?

the one thing I like about these rotors is that they are directional as opposed to all the ones that I've seen come from BMW. Benefit of the F30 setup is the pads are quick change (don't need to remove the caliper). I already have the E9x performance brakes on the Z4 and was planning on buying new rotors anyway before going back to the track this season.

Unless someone does a side-by-side comparison of both options on the same car measuring distance to stop at the same speed I really think its a toss up from a performance perspective. E9x kit is smaller rotor but 6-piston, F30 kit is larger rotor but 4-piston - my gut tells me they will both have very similar stopping power.

FWIW, as an IS owner, my senses tell me the parking brake and "Park" on the DCT are two separate things. When you put the DCT into Park, there is an associated click/clunk (aside, DCT makes a LOT of noises, ha) that originates in the transmission. Conversely, moving it out of Park and into a gear has it's own associated set of noises. However, engaging the parking brake is a very different, distinct action, and you are able to feel it engage/disengage. None of that happens when putting the DCT into Park.

In all cars: Park in automatic (DCT or not) blocks/engages the gears immobilizing the car. E-brake or handbrake bypasses the hydraulics of the pedal and activates the brakes (in most cases the rear brakes).

Are we saying that the rear caliper for the f30 big brake kit won't fit?

And as long as its better than stock, that's kind of all that matters.

What pads and fluid are you using?
