Hoping to find out something later today. It is kind of comical though. Here's what happened about 2 hrs ago..

Phone rings...

Me – Hello this is Jeff

John – Hi Jeff, this is John from International Autos. Just wanted to see if you have any questions.

Me – Sure! So what’d you find with the car?

John – What do you mean?

Me – What do you mean, what do I mean? You have my car. What did you find wrong with it.

John – We have your car? Your car is here?

Me – Let’s back up. John, why the hell did you call me?

John – Well, someone hit the service call button in your car.

Me – Well John, my car is there, so maybe you can walk over and find out who did what and what’s going on eh?

John – Oh, yes, I see here your car is here and that it will be looked at today. Is there anything else I can do for you?

Me – Ummm I don’t think so. (wanting to ask what he did for me in the first place)

Oh boy, that sure doesn't instill any confidence in their abilities to diagnose the problem when they don't even know the car is there...

Hello R. Ducky,

You're right - tried it today. The primary manual will fit in the glovebox without the black case, but that isn't very satisfying. We've become acutely aware of the very limited storage space in the cabin of the 2010 Z4 35i and now realize we made a huge mistake in not ordering the ski boot / pass through option thingy. Nowhere in the online ordering guide or in the dealer's "shopping list" was there an indication that there's a special storage bin with shelves and a nice door that can be obtained to use with the pass through opening - we thought it was just for the ski boot which was of no interest whatsoever. Now we're wondering if there's a way to retrofit the unit because we very much would like to have it. Any advice in that respect would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Ed

OK, so I took the key out of the fob and what do you know, you can lower the windows and drop the top and close the windows and close the top while standing outside the car and twisting and holding the key in the appropriate direction. Brilliant BMW. How hard would it have been to program the same action from the remote fob? I bet not hard at all. Hope someone comes up with a hack to enable this.......

Just got the call. Yep, HPFP was bad. Replaced, now I can go pick it up.

So much for having redesigned the pump last year.

Picked mine up this morning. Started right up after sitting all night at the dealer. I hope BMW got it right this time.

They purposefully did not provide that feature on the remote, so that they could make it an option as part of the Comfort Access and charge an additional $500 for it.
I refused to get that option on my car, and didn't get the upgraded stereo either. Just didn't feel like giving BMW the satisfaction, or the money.

Where did you see a storage bin and door and shelves...? Is that part of the pass through package or a separate add on?

In the US, the storage package is only available as part of the cold weather package. It contains a net in the pasenger footwell and on the shelf behind the seats, tie down straps in the trunk, and plastic shelves to fit in the pass-thru. The ski bag is available seperately or in the cold weather package.

You might be able to order the shelves thru the dealer but I have no clue on the part number. The footwell net is the same as in other models.

BlueZ4AZ,

I feel you dog. Same here. Just bugs the crap out of me. Clearly that feature is built into the software, it just needs to be enabled to operate through the key fob. Standard radio is crap on a stick....shameful.

Oh well, I still love my Z4. It makes driving to work enjoyable......

I'm disappointed that BMW still now, has not been able to improve this 35i fuel pump issues in these twin turbo engines. I can't believe I am still hearing about this same problem that I went through on my previous February 2008 build BMW 135i coupe. They also had to change the faulty fuel pump.

Here was my original problem along with others on long cranks because of the fuel pump issue:

I did a full throttle run tonight as in entered the interstate. Now the car is running really rough and won't stay running at idle. I guess it's back to the dealer again tomorrow morning. Man this is aggravating.

Had a problem with my BMW 335i and contacted a lemon law attorney after 6 attempts to fix a transmission problem. After a certain number of attempts to fix you can lemon a car. I was over that limit. I contacted BMWNA as a courtesy to let them know what was coming and they sent an engineer and fixed my car with no problems since.

Last thing they want is a 50k car back on the lot with 'lemon' on the sticker.

Fuel Pump

3 fuel pumps on my last 2007 335i Coupe - still, I loved the car overall.

I did however opt for the Z4 30i instead of the 35i.

Only annoying item on this new car is the excessive road noise from the rear end at 80+ MPH. Clearly they have not used the same insulation in the rear as they do in the front.

SA said the problem was a software adaptation reset problem. The reset didn't take the first time. They had the car ready a couple of hours after I dropped it off. The car seems to be fine for now. We'll see...

This applies to UK Market Cars WITHOUT COMFORT ACCESS.
For you guys in US, try it....if this does not work, then it looks like it's been deleted for the US Market.
  1. CLOSE doors, boot/trunk, bonnet/hood (it will NOT work if any door is ajar)
  2. PRESS & HOLD (continuously) the "arrow" on the key-fob
  • ALL Windows will lower
  • Roof will lower (and pack itself)
This is NOT a reversible action

HPFP has been replaced and Z4 is running great. Car now smells like mechanic B.O. Need to drive with top down for a while tonight.

US cars cannot operate the windows and roof w/o comfort access.
