Replacement Tire Recommendations
Planning to replace the very sticky but horribly short lived OEM tires on my 2010 Z4 s35i soon after taking it out of winter hibernation.
I am considering a move to the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 ZP (run flat) or possibly to Continental ContiSportContact 3 (not run flat) What recommendations would you give? What tires do you run on and why? |

Go to tirerack.com and read their tests and consumer feedback. Personally I am partial to Yokohama and Continentals. I have Continentals (DWS) on my R32 and Yokohama ENVigors on my Z4. Both are excellent but you are looking for summer tires so my experience is not directly relevant. Michelins are excellent tires so I am sure you would be happy with the PS2s but read about other UHP summer tires on Tirerack. You might be surprised with some of the feedback and test results. Good luck.

They certainly cannot be any worse than the Bridgestone tires that BMW put on at the factory! I have 12,000 Kms on them and they are about 75% gone. Great handling but with UTQG of only 140, it would be an expensive proposition to keep these on the car. |

The Z4 is babied and never driven in the rain, so will get the PS2's for the Z4 once the OEMs wear out. I had the PS2s on my 2007 Corvette. Great tires. |

just an fyi, both dunlop and hankook outperformed ps2's in a recent test by car and driver.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...r_spec_page_11 both are far cheaper and last longer than the ps2. people do complain about the dunlop's noise though. Last edited by mikeinaustin; 03-14-2011 at 05:49 PM.. |

for those of you outside the U.S., you may want to consider the new pilot sport 3. in the U.S., not really available because the number of sizes supported is tiny. later this year, this should improve.

most of you recommend the non-run flat tires. Why is this? I live in a rural / remote area and was thinking to keep run-flats just to minimize the risk of getting stranded for hours waiting for a tow truck in the event of a flat tire. about 80% of my driving is done in these rural / remote areas.

Just got rid of the RFT's on my 35is and replaced with Continental Extreme DW, 275 30-19 rear and 235 35-19 front. Fit and look great! Not broken in yet but the difference in ride is amazing. I ordered a BMW Mobility kit which is what comes with M cars that don't have RFT's, around $150. RFT's on the Z4 are awful. These tires got pretty good reviews and are a good bit cheaper than the Michelins, I bought them from tire rack.

That new tire is supposed to improve on the PS2 and have a tread life rating of 300 (twice that of the OEM tires!)

My Michelin Pilot Sport on my new M3 feel fantastic and I do recommend them. Had Michelin on my former e46 M3 and never any issues. I surely do not miss my RFT
