Time for new tires just before I put our Z4 up for sale. I'm definitely going with a non-RFT and will most likely buy the PS4. Has anyone tried the PS3+ high performance all-season? They're about $60 per tire cheaper and since I'm more worried about wet weather performance over all out grip, I think they may be a better choice. Feedback?

Ride report since no one seemed to have given these a try...
Our Z4 is a 2009 3.0, non-sport package, square setup 225/45-17. Car had Michelin RFTs when we bought it and just replaced with non RFT PS3 Ultra High Performance All Season. I've put about 200 miles on them with about 75% being highway. Noise level is a little better with a significant improvement in ride quality. Drove it through some of the worst streets in downtown Charleston the other day and not feeling and hearing a crash out of the tires when hitting some of the potholes and broken areas of the pavement was a very welcome change. Turn in response actually seems to be better despite the softer sidewall. The tire has a beefier and more aggressive look on the wheel even though it's the same size as the previous tire. Waiting to see how they do in the pouring rain and I'm sure I'll have the chance soon since it's monsoon season here. At $140 each, so far I think they were a great choice.

Stock size Michelin Pilot 4s with 17X8 PLATINUM REVELATION GUNMETAL wheels from tire rack. Including new TPS sensors mounted and balanced to your door. Just slapped them on and go.
The non RF tires improve the comfort and handling. 18mm and 12mm spacers coming to complete. |

Passenger side rear tire got screw'd. It is time to get new tires anyway. Right now Potenza RE050AI are on the car. I am thinking of going for the same or maybe P Zero RFTs as they are cheaper. Any suggestions for RFTs ?

Question: How much extra space do we have between F/R stock wheel and stock suspension strut? Would a wider wheel that is 26mm closer to suspension strut cause rubbing?
A friend (nonlocal) has a set of 9Jx18 ET42 square setup with 235/45 tires to sell and I'm wondering if this setup would work or not. It seems like the front wheels will be 25.7mm closer to suspension struts whereas the rear wheels will be 8.4mm closer and poke out 4.4mm more. In the attached pics, orange lines denote the recommended stock setup whereas green lines denote the 9Jx18 ET42 setup. URLs to actual calculations: Front --> https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...h=9&offset2=42 Rear --> https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...h=9&offset2=42 Got the recommended stock specs from here: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/...ve35i-usdm-300 Front: 8Jx18 ET29, 225/40ZR18 88W Rear: 8.5Jx18 ET40, 255/35ZR18 90W |

You might need a small spacer up front to be able to run a square setup with such a high ET. With lower ET you may need to add camber up front. |

Clearance behind the wheel/tire is about 1/2" all around and less then a 1/32" clearance for the front fender lip. My fenders are not rolled though, which would increase that clearance some more. With the lowering springs installed though, I did need to trim the fender liner directly above the tire, because it was rubbing on big bumps/dips in the road...
For my next set of wheels, I'd like to find some that are 19x8.5 et25 for the front so I wouldn't need spacers to push them out... and then 19x10 et40 for the rear

Wheel Question!!
I have a 2011 35i and I am currently on 225/40/R18 F and 255/35/R18 R and want to run 18x9.5 +22 F and 18x9.5 +22 R Kansei KNP wheels. I would like to know if there would be any issues with this setup on stock suspension. If anyone has the same specs I would very much appreciate photos! Thanks

I wonder if 275/30R18 on 10J ET40 wheels could work for a square setup with -3deg camber up front and a small spacer. There would definitely be alot of rubbing on full steering lock though. |

Hi First post on this forum, will post a welcome with photo a bit later. However I some assistance is required regarding tyre sizes. My M326 alloys are cracked and I've purchased some Avant Garde M355 but cant decide which tyre sizes to get, but don't want any chub rub due to my tyres being overly fat, but i want the widest possible !!
Car = 2012 M sport 2.0 with M sport suspension Current wheel set up = Front 225/35/19 8' ET29, rear 255/30/19 9' ET40 (standard) new wheel Avant guard M355 = Front 9' ET35 and rear 10' ET38 Tyre options : 1) Front 235/35/19 Rear 265/30/19 - recommended by Avant Garde, but these seem on the lower side for the wheel. Wheel has increased in width by 25mm but Tyre width increase is only 10mm 2) Front 245/35/19 rear 275/30/19 - protects from kurb rash 3) Front 245/35/19 rear 265/35/19 - protects the rear from cracking Last edited by Leek78; 03-09-2020 at 08:39 AM.. |

Aftermarket wheels and Runflats
I'm so confused, I need to replace 2 rear wheels due to cracks, but considering putting aftermarket wheels on the Z4, as it's more cost effective than original BMW wheels. However, my tyres are runflats and staggered. I'm getting conflicting information and need to know if my runflats will be compatible with the aftermarket wheels. Changing to regular tyres on a Z4 that has minimal boot space and 2 tyre sizes, is not an option for me now. Would I have to replace these wheels with the original BMW wheels?

I reckon if diameter, width and offset of the aftermarket wheels match the OEM's, then you're good. However, TPMS compatibility may be the problem. I'd wait to buy aftermarket wheels until somebody can opine, or the seller guarantees TPMS compatibility.

So you can transfer your tyres across… That assumes the wheel widths are compatible.. What wheels do you currently have ? What model and when was it produced ? As was suggested depending on the year of manufacture of your car you may have one of two puncture monitoring systems.. The later system TPMS has a radio transmitter in each wheel, yiu will need to transfer those as well or buy new ones..

If you go the new wheels route, you might consider an offset that give it a wider stance? Or you can use wheel spacers as I have on my stock 18" style 325 wheels. I went with 15mm fronts and 20mm rears and like the increased stance with these additions per this thread: https://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1997777 Stock wheels specs are as follows, addition of spacers effectively only change the offset: Front: 8Jx18 ET+29 Offset. With the addition of the 15mm spacers, the new effective offset is ET+14 Rear: 8.5Jx18 ET40. With the addition of the 15mm spacers, the new effective offset is ET+20

If the new wheels have the same OEM diameter, width and offset, then same tyre size. Some folk have gone up one width size for more kerb protection and to fill more the arches/wings.
Do get a good tyre patch kit and pump. And a roadside assistance plan. That’s a must. |
