I know I've seen a member on here that had it done. Interesting look; looked pretty good! If I stumble across it again I'll let you know.

I'm not so sure on things like this. I don't mind people making their cars their own, its their car after all, but I do so hate it when people make their cars out to be something they're not. Like an M when it simply isn't an M.

I blame BMW to some extent for this, but they're not alone. 'M Sport' implies a connection to 'M' division that simply does not exist. Mercedes are doing the same now where you can buy, for example, an E class saloon 2.1 diesel 'AMG'. Its not an AMG, its been nowhere near AMG, its a slow diesel saloon with complete focus on economy and they put different bodywork on it, just like BMW do, but it does not drive like an AMG and has no AMG specific parts. Its branding to fool us.. which doesn't work with me I'm afraid. Typically they cream another £3000-£4000 from us in the UK to get M Sport or AMG Pack cars when they don't cost BMW any more to manufacture and bring nothing more to the table than bodywork or perhaps slightly stiffer or lowered shocks which require no more investment or development than the OEM stock kit. Beef over.. for now lol. |

nothing wrong with displaying a little M colors to show enthusiasm. It doesn't really imply it's an M car, just decals afterall.

I didn't say it was wrong, just that I didn't like it personally. As far as 'showing enthusiasm' is concerned, that translates, for me, into 'making it something its not'. Like those cheap boxes you see on the road with 'Turbo', 'Sport' and 'V8' on the back when in fact they are none of those things. M colours imply M and I simply don't like to see M colours used on a non M.

It is all BMWs fault. I have a 35is and it has ///M all over it. I did not buy it for the labels and I would prefer they were not there. Instead of diluting their ///M brand they should have come up with a better branding concept. Maybe something like ///S for having the Sport package. That way they leverage the ///M heritage without diluting it. Those who know BMW know what the car is.

The end result of brand dilution usually is that you sell less or have to lower the price of the premium brand as it no longer has the distinction it had. For most companies I think they look at the increase $ from the lower brand as offsetting. My feeling after doing marketing for years is you lose an intangible to your overall brand that is never made up in $. |

You must be walking around in fits of rage all the time I have a neighbor that has gone all the way with this and badged this C300 with C63 black series badging. He also took out the mufflers and change to quad tips. It is TOO hilarious |
