No... back up camera shows up automatically whether you're using iDrive or the CarPlay smartbox. Camera disappears after moving forward for a few seconds and goes back to whichever screen you had been on before backing up.
You do not have to splice into the reverse light wire. The carplay box does that for you (which is awesome).
