Most of the time they will reduce the rate of speed clocked on radar/lidar/pacing in excess of the posted speed limit for multiple reasons:
  1. Good attitude on behalf of the motorist.
  2. The officer is/was in a particularly good/indifferent mood.
  3. Not wanting to deal with impounding the car and the paperwork that comes along with it.
  4. An otherwise good driving record
