If Australia is any indication, it will continue.
They discontinued the 35i here and now you can only buy the 20i, 28i or the full blown N54 35iS. It is now a big price jump to get from the 28i to the 35iS.
I doubt they would do that only months before they make the 35iS unavailable or more expensive (by reinventing it as a M35i which would be sure to cost even more)

Given they kept the 296 style and changed the rim interior design, I dont see why they cant still use them. They look good. Its not like they sell the original rim design that everyone had so much trouble with anymore. The new ones just look the same from the outside...
Sanity check: Has anyone who has had one replaced with the new design had a crack with the "new 296" wheels?
I dont think so or we would have heard about it by now.
