Well the mirror color is the most salient aspect that distinguishes it from the other Z's. If you paint your mirrors the same color it appears that you are attempting to pass it off as such. Thus the ever so popular "M" badge option that ppl feel compelled to place on anything with 4 wheels.
But to each his/her own, just be aware of how it will be perceived by the enthusiast community.
