Car wash folks are the lowest common denominator. Job qualifications are limited to being able to tell apart a bucket from a sponge.
New car prep folks are typically dedicated to that task and are full time career employees.
Sad but true, I've seen car wash folks crush fenders, leave sunroofs open, doors open, destroy wheels, scratch finish and the most popular... Knocking mirror off the vehicle. Sure there are good folks out there but service department either promotes them to new car prep or they leave for a better paying job.
Think of it as a high turnover position like a dishwasher at a restuarant.
