Which car is it, and did they buy the latest version of the EMF module directly from BMW? I know they are expensive, and some people try and buy used modules repaired by others.
I started getting problems with my e-brake, and just swapped the module to the latest version from bmw. All problems gone, never found out why. I wrote a bit more about it on the first page of my build thread on spo olstreet under the Z4 section.
