There are some pics somewhere on the web of a sub install behind the seats, replacing the 2 stock units with a custom made cabinet. It was flush with the back of the seats, if I remember right - but seemed like a lot of work.
Free air sub will work with/without the top down, volume wont really be a factor due to trunk venting. Won't hit as tight as a sealed (of some sort) unit. You're at diminishing returns at this point, but do the amp upgrade and get some power to those new subs first - that's the easiest path and will make a difference.
