I dod have a 2009 35i and the module was installed when I purchased that car slightly used in early 2010. Perhaps it had different electronics then your "is"
I would not block anything from preventing the roof from going dawn (without checking at the dealer if that would harm the hydraulic system), it might damage something... just my 2 cents on that one.
Jayda seams to have it down path ... just need to find yourself a smaller volunteer for that task
I'm sure you come up with some sort of a handy tool.
