Bimmer-tech sells the combox and the cable used to program it. They give instructions on how to install the unit, then you use a USB cable with a laptop which allows them to remotely connect to your car and reprogram the car to gain the functionality of the combox. I've seen somewhere that you can purchase a used combox for much cheaper, but then someone must reprogram your car to accept it. I'm not sure how that would work.
