Why didn't BMW brand the iS an 'M'?

Why didn't BMW brand the iS an 'M'?

Let's be honest, there's no chance of a V8 Z4, not in the ever more expensive world of petrol stations and car tax ... especially when you consider that the next M3 will almost certainly not have 8 cylinders.

So whats the iS missing that would make it an 'M'?

Is it a cynical marketing move so BMW can make even more profit from a yet more expensive member of the Z4 family?

Surely they aren't going to squeeze even more power out of that 6 cylinder engine??

If any car in the range is suitable for an 'M' version, we all know the Z4 is, so whats going on here BMW??
