I think the stalk reset won't allow reset until quite a low mileage.
I would wait until it hits about 1k then reset.
Sounds like someone replaced pads but didn't reset through the stalk with the old sensor fitted, or it wouldn't accept a reset with the old sensor fitted.
Personally I fitted pads, fitted new sensors and tied them back out of the way.
