I replaced mine with Exide battery... Check that new battery is AGM type, has same capacity amp hours and cold crank amp ratings...
Then battery registering is as simple as just telling the car it has new battery with a few clicks.
if you change to for example different type, size and capacity then you have to do more programming to tell your car that it has this type of battery with this capacity and so on. Its just simpler to get direct replacement...
Also if i remember correctly BMW oem batteries are made by Exide and Varta. Maybe there are more manufacturers depending on where on earth you live.
