A decently-equipped Miata is currently around $28k. Two more years at 3% inflation, and you're almost at 30k. The current bloated Z4 starts at 46k. So that does leave a good chunk between the two. However, if the Z2's engine is not worthy of that big of a price difference over the Miata, I don't see how BMW can justify one. The Miata's already so well entrenched in that segment that the Z2's gonna have to be pretty competitive on price or blow the doors off the Mazda.

My preference would be a car as fun as the Miata, but with a bit more style and comfort - I'd be willing to pay a couple of grand premium for it, but not too much. It's going to be interesting to see how BMW plays it.
