Are you sure it isn't the other way round? There's typically more space when the roof is closed/up than when it's open/down.
I wonder how much it's going to incroach on the interior though - it's one thing in a 2+2 to have things poking through into the back seats, but in a 2 seater I can see that getting a bit crowded.
