As evidence to this: I've been driving my 2011 Z4 3.0 for three months - now has 28k miles, and recently it started stuttering/misfiring/hesitating above 2500 RPM when accelerating more heavily (behaves fine below that). It did this in sport or normal mode. After checking the coils (loosened and pulled them one at a time while running, listening for rough running) and finding no bad coils, I replaced the plugs, problem solved. Smooth as a kitten, responsive as a cheetah now.
