What ever happened to the 'BMW Remote tracked them and locked them in the car, alerted police'? I guess that won't activate until you alert them your ride is stolen, but surprising they don't mention that option in the story (or perhaps it is just for the 7-series?).
At least there is beginning to be a new way to rob cars that does not involve physically mugging the owner for their fob - that was a 'theft deterrent' that went WAY wrong (fobs and electronic keys were initially touted as the solution to a theft-prone mechanical key, ushering in the era of the carjacking). Probably helps that I also skipped the comfort access option; I bet that if they work at it, they can put in the same rolling encryption that they use for the button-push - that seems to be a decent deterrent.
