BMW's got a great exhaust system from the factory, no need for a catback.
I highly recommend a secondary cat delete and muffler upgrade (magnaflow, borla, etc) I have done it myself and can vouch for its free flowing properties and gorgeous sound. just make sure to keep your resonator.
also, its best to do both the mods separately with about 500KM of varied driving and plenty of redlines in between. I have already done this to my N52 equipped vehicle, so this is what you can expect it to sound like. note that the flyby video is much louder in person.
