i was told by the jerk service guy:
the car won't run if you change it, the sudden change makes the computer think something is suddenly wrong because it monitors all the current in & out to modify charging.
since i have no real-world experience with this, i (if possible) will buy a battery, pull into the side BMW lot, & change it myself... just in case.
