I know gas cost a lot more in the UK, but I'm not sure if the cars are significantly more expensive. I configured a Z4 35i on BMW UK's website, which includes a 20% VAT on the price. Then I configured a 35i on BMW US's website with similar equipments and then added the sales tax for my state (6.25%) and compared it with the UK price. Turns out the UK price is about 14% higher, which means the cars themselves are pretty comparably priced, but the UK price is higher due to the high VAT.
