Speed is just a contributing factor and rarely is the only cause of a crash. But, I agree with the level of driver instruction and the lack of seriousness most people in the US take driving, an unlimited speed would be a disaster. People die on 30-45 MPH roads now because they don't know how to drive to conditions, don't wear a seatbelt or something from the above.
