On the flip side though nicest cop I've ever had was the CHP that gave me a 1 point ticket for doing 120 on 280 a few years back. That could have been so much worse.

Most of the time they will reduce the rate of speed clocked on radar/lidar/pacing in excess of the posted speed limit for multiple reasons:
- Good attitude on behalf of the motorist.
- The officer is/was in a particularly good/indifferent mood.
- Not wanting to deal with impounding the car and the paperwork that comes along with it.
- An otherwise good driving record
