Bad news about your wife getting trapped. But to be fair, you really shouldn't have any part of your body near the roof when operating, smart top or otherwise.
I've had no issues with the smart top so far. If you're careless in its operation, knowing what its designed to do (get around safety) then can you really be surprised if something bad happens...
